Before we accuse our defendant of starting fights, destroying connections, and firing teamwork, we must understand what it is. Competitiveness is defined by the desire to be better than others. To be better than others, does that mean we dislike others, or want them to stop? No it simply means that we want to higher our standards to achieve theirs. It means that we want to better ourselves. The ally is jealousy, but listen, we all have friends who are completely different from us, and competitiveness does to. Jealousy is not competitiveness although, sometimes they come hand in hand. More often than not, we have learned to ignore jealousy, and so when they come as a team, we focus on the competitiveness, and avoid being jealous. When jealousy realizes that it has no purpose, it leaves, and we remain solely competitive However, competitiveness isn’t the nicest guy on the block. In 1797, Napoleon Bonaparte became first consul after overthrowing the Directory and establishing the Consultate. He had many achievements for France under educational, financial, administrative, legal and religious reforms. However, these achievements are often exaggerated. Napoleon was indeed the amp;#8216;heiramp;#8217; of the revolution as he completed much of the work that the revolution had started, such as the creation of a Civil Code and the reforming of the education system. Despite this, he also destroyed much of the revolutionamp;#8217;s work. He ignored and betrayed some of the revolutionamp;#8217;s beliefs and much of his achievements were incomplete. This amp;#8216;codeamp;#8217; was requested in many grievances, which were sent to Louis XVI and was demanded by the revolutionariesamp;#8217;. The code took into account issues that the revolution had stood for, such as equality before the law and freedom of religion. This Civil code also gave equal inheritance to all offspring should a parent die. Marriage became a civil rather than a religious act. Napoleon stopped a proposal for girls to marry at thirteen and for boys to marry at fifteen. Instead, he increased the marital age to eighteen for girls and twenty for boys. The civil code also permitted divorce. On the other hand, according to John Merriman, this was also an incomplete achievement and did not satisfy everyone. Napoleon went against one of the revolution beliefs amp;#8211; equality for women. By Isla Martirez Shakespearean Comedy - Essay In the Shakespearean comedy â€Å"The Taming of the Shrew†, William Shakespeare cleverly uses the techniques; Satire, Caricatures, Wit and Irony to create humour. â€Å"The Simpsons† amp; â€Å"The Big Bang Theory† are television shows that also engage the audiences with the same comedic techniques. The comedic technique satire is used in comedies to make fun and criticize the stupidity and weakness of individuals. In the Shakespeare’s comedy ‘The Taming of the Shrew’, satire was used to criticize unfair social customs and unfortunate people. The technique satire was often exaggerated to engage the audience with humour. Homer is clearly over exaggerating his role of being a parent that scolds and punishes their children when they’ve done wrong doings. Wit is another comedic device that is also used in ‘The Taming of the Shrew’. Wit creates laughter through intelligent humour from the characters with the ability to perceive unexpected contrasts and express them cleverly. In the comedy ‘The Taming of the Shrew’ wit is used when Petruchio and Katherina argue over the time.
